Important Safety Information

What you need to know before taking GLP-1s

Ozempic® (semaglutide), Wegovy® (semaglutide), Saxenda® (liraglutide), Mounjaro® (tirzepatide), Zepbound® (tirzepatide), and Foundayo® (orforglipron) are prescription medications and may not be appropriate for all patients. Treatment eligibility is determined by a licensed healthcare provider following an individual medical evaluation.

Warning: Thyroid C-cell Tumors

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications may increase the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use these medications if you or a family member have a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Who should not use these medications

Do not use these medications if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a known hypersensitivity to semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide, or related ingredients, or if your healthcare provider advises against treatment.

Common side effects

Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, indigestion, fatigue, headache, and injection-site reactions.

Serious side effects

Serious side effects may occur, including pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney problems, severe gastrointestinal complications, low blood sugar (particularly when used with insulin or certain diabetes medications), allergic reactions, vision changes, increased heart rate, and possible thyroid tumors.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

Severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, chest pain, or symptoms of a possible thyroid tumor including a lump in the neck, hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing.

Before starting treatment

Patients should inform their healthcare provider about all medical conditions, current medications, and supplements before starting treatment.

Compounded medications

Compounded medications, if prescribed, are not FDA-approved and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality. Compounded products may be prescribed when, in the professional judgment of a licensed healthcare provider, a patient's medical needs cannot be met by a commercially available product.
